Eating & Drinking Together

Honest, imaginative, local & seasonal cooking

Breakfast  :  Lunch  :  Afternoon tea  :  Supper  :  Dinner

As with all good country houses, the Dining Room is at the heart of the castle and many a new friendship has been made around the castle's huge oak dining table.

There's no whispering over the consomme here. Breakfast and dinner are thoroughly sociable occasions with everyone eating together around one table. We don't have separate tables.

If there are ten or more of you, we can do private lunches in our magnificent blue dining room  or why not treat yourself to a decadent traditional full afternoon tea?

"Weekends at Augill Castle are social occasions"

- Red Online March 2011

Our cooking comes from the heart and majors on taking the best ingredients on our doorstep and cooking them simply and without fuss. It's real cooking not fine dining.

We offer a set three course dinner on a pre-booked basis. If you'd rather have something lighter or don't like the idea of eating together around one big table, we offer supper platters and in the winter when it's quiet we might offer a simpler supper - we'll discuss your requirements with you when you book.

There is absolutely no need to ruin a lazy Sunday (or any other) morning here. Breakfast is a leisurely affair, seldom kicking off before 9am. Ingredients are locally sourced and include locally handmade Cumberland sausages & award-winning bacon, wild salmon smoked at Brougham Hall, free-range eggs from the castle’s resident hens, freshly baked bread, home made preserves and freshly squeezed juice (which, of course, is what the pair on the left are drinking).

Later in the day, we offer scrumptious traditional afternoon teas - finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream & jam and fabulous cakes - and then three course dinners or cold supper platters. There is always an early supper or high tea for younger guests.

Even if you don't fancy a full dinner, there's always something yummy on offer!

Afternoon tea and dinner do need to be booked in advance. Platters are available with an hour or so notice.

Our menus are set according to the preferences of each night's guests and everyone eats together - it's a dinner party rather than a restaurant.

There is a modest well balanced, wine list and you can try your bartending skills at the honesty bar in the library.

Please remember to tell us when you book if you'd like an evening meal. As we are not a full service hotel dinner is usually only available on a pre-booked basis
