Augill Castle has been voted Wedding Castle of the Year in the UK Enterprise Awards. It’s a boast we’re proud to make but the real proof comes from the hundreds of couples who have tied the knot at the castle since our first wedding back in September 2001.
At the back end of the Foot and Mouth epidemic which brought tourism in Cumbria and other parts of the UK to a virtual standstill a request to host a wedding seemed daunting but why not? After all, we didn’t have much else on.
Over the years we have had big weddings, small weddings (as small as two with us standing in as witnesses) weddings in the sunshine, the rain and even snowed in. We’ve had weddings in the dark, one that nearly didn’t happen and one that just didn’t turn up even though they’d paid. So we’re pretty much geared up for anything.
