Back in early May, we quietly began a very special project here at Augill Castle. With your support we set out to create a Legacy Orchard in memory of Simon. For those who knew him, it will come as no surprise that Simon loved trees, particularly those that offered something delicious to taste and share, for a man who also loved his food.
There’s something wonderfully grounding about winter and early spring in Cumbria: wellies lined up in the hallway (we have a rack!), rich suppers on the table, the scent of woodsmoke in the air, and skies that swirl with winter light – perfect for cosy adventures from your home‑from‑home here at Augill Castle.

In 2026, here at our beautiful Augill Castle in Cumbria we’re hosting an unforgettable Burns Night weekend that brings this historic celebration to life.
Anyone who has lost someone knows the firsts are always the worst. The first birthdays, the first easter, the first Christmas.
