We have been selling dated bears every year since we opened with £5 from the sale of each one going to our chosen charity of the year which as always focussed on young people. So far we have raised £35,000. Last year’s charity was LIV Village South Africa for orphaned children just outside Durban – a cause close to our family as Oliver, our son volunteered there during a summer at the Durban Sharks rugby academy. We raised just short of £2000 for LIV in 2017.
With so many of our young staff away from home at university or college, including both our children, Oliver and Emily, and as it’s our double decade anniversary we have chosen to support for the next twelve months two organisations providing support to students by students. As a family we have had first hand experience of how mental health issues can affect everyone in the family, not just the person facing difficulties so this feels like a good fit.
Our charities of the year are Student Minds and Nightline and both will benefit from the sale of our twentieth anniversary bear plus other initiative during the year culminating in our ever popular Christmas concert.
