Family Friendly

The Castle that’s reinvented family friendly

Time is precious, quality family time even more so. You’ve booked the time off work, everyone is on board for a family adventure but the places you’ve found don’t have flexible accommodation – there are five or six of you but the hotel only caters for four in a room. Children aren’t allowed in the restaurant after a certain time or the hotel’s idea of family friendly is to split the family up between kids’ activities and adult time. Child friendly actually means children are tolerated, whats missing is the time and space your family actually needs together. You’re thinking maybe you might as well stay at home. Sound familiar? Then read on.

At Augill we look after the whole family, not just children, by giving you space and freedom to be yourselves – as a family – because there are few things modern families crave more than the luxury of quality time together.

It’s philosophy over facilities.

There are few rules as happy families don’t need them. And besides, it’s a castle – who needs rules? We are particularly popular with multi-generation family get-togethers because everyone from granny and grandpa to the youngest member of the family feels equally at home. Is Augill right for you?

The Drawing Room is a space for the whole family to enjoy.

Bring your own games or toys and don’t worry about leaving them out.

Our former cinema has given way to an expansion of the bar and dining room – a necessary casualty of the 2020 pandemic but there is now a projector and movie screen in the Drawing Room. So, bring your favourite DVD, pull down our big cinema screen and watch a movie – in a castle! We’ll even lay on popcorn.

Outside fifteen acres are there to explore. Beyond that the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales – both come almost to our door – offer a whole world of adventures and activities.

Why not get out and explore the Eden Valley on two wheels?

Eating at Augill is fun too. It’s food the whole family can enjoy together but we can always feed younger children earlier – just ask! As an alternative to dinner we offer traditional afternoon tea every day with savoury or sweet versions and big and small portions.

And once bed beckons there are family rooms, interconnecting rooms, suites and everything you might need when travelling with children from cots & highchairs to baby monitors & spare supplies. We don’t offer a baby sitting service so please speak to us before you book if you need reassurance about the configuration of bedrooms or the layout of the castle.
