The past three years will feel like a very bad dream for many of us. The pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the cost of living crisis and, of course, Boris Johnson.
And, unless you’re Bobby Ewing, you might thing there’s no waking up as if it all never happened.
Unlike private households, small businesses like us have no protection from spiralling energy costs and heating a castle this winter is going to be a very real challenge. Add to that the ever-increasing cost of food and it becomes apparent that we can’t go on as we are.
So, you might be surprised at our response:
We’re going to do as much as we can to turn back the clock by cutting many of our prices back to those of 2019 this winter.
Yes, that’s right, we’re going to pretend all those awful nightmare things – the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the cost of living crisis and Boris Johnson never happened.
When you book direct the cost of a standard double will start at £160 instead of £200.*
We’re going to cut the cost of three courses in the restaurant from £40 to £34 and two courses will go from £32.50 to £28. The portions might be slightly smaller but at least your wallet won’t be.
Our signature cocktail list will go retro with prices falling from £10 to £8 and while our afternoon tea won’t reduce in price, you’ll get a complimentary glass of prosecco or a drink from the bar included – when you book direct with us – giving you a £35 afternoon tea experience for just £25.**
How is this all possible, we hear you cry. Our thinking is simple – you can sit at home and freeze this winter, feeling miserable and depressed as Liz Truss makes even more of a mess of things than Boris has or you can come out, enjoy good food, a happy atmosphere, great company and pretend it all never happened, even just for a night and if enough of you are willing we can fill the castle with warmth (although maybe not quite as warm as it was in 2019) and good vibes.
All this will start on September 5 and run until December 15 and if we’re still clinging on in January, we’ll do it all again in 2023.
