Elopements and Weddings for Two
Some of the best weddings have a congregation of none. Whether you call it an elopement or simply a wedding for two, the idea is the same: the two of you, a castle in the Eden Valley, and a day that belongs entirely to you. No seating plan, no speeches unless you fancy giving one to each other, and witnesses provided by us so you need not tell a soul until it is done.

An elopement at Augill Castle is wonderfully simple: just the two of you, a little bit of fizz, beautiful surroundings and a day that feels entirely your own.
You arrive the afternoon before and settle in with afternoon tea and a glass of Prosecco, then take your time to explore the gardens, wander the grounds, or simply curl up somewhere and enjoy having the whole place around you. If you fancy making an evening of it, supper can be arranged for that first night too.
You stay in the Gatehouse Suite, and wake up slowly with breakfast in bed, because there really is no need to rush on your wedding day.
When you are ready, you’ll be married in the Drawing Room, with two members of the Augill team acting as your witnesses. Then comes the important bit: opening a bottle of Nyetimber and raising a glass to being married.
For dinner, you can choose to join everyone in the Dining Room, which on most evenings feels far more like a houseparty than a hotel restaurant, or keep things completely private in the Drawing Room. Either way there is a three-course dinner to enjoy together, with plenty of time to talk, eat, drink and take it all in.
And because this is your wedding, not a race against the clock, you can relax afterwards, stay the night and enjoy a late checkout at noon the following day.
A very small wedding. A very big day. And not a seating plan in sight.

The Drawing Room, where you’ll marry
You don’t need a huge ballroom to make a wedding feel special. For a wedding for two you need one beautiful room and nobody else in it.
The Drawing Room
The Drawing Room is where your elopement happens. It’s warm, inviting, and effortlessly unique – just like the castle itself. There’s no rigid setup here, no feeling of being boxed into a standard wedding package. Instead, there’s space to breathe, to be yourselves, and to enjoy the moment.
No rows of empty chairs. Just the two of you, our team as your witnesses, and a room brimming with character – so your photographs will speak for themselves.
And the best part? Your ceremony isn’t at the mercy of the Cumbrian weather. If the sun decides to shine, the gardens are yours for photos and a refreshing drink. If it doesn’t? Your day stays exactly as planned- no compromises, no stress.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a wedding for two the same as an elopement?
It is, and couples use both words. Some love the romance of “eloping”; others just want a legal, beautiful wedding without an audience. Either way this package is built for exactly two people, witnesses included.
Do we need to bring witnesses?
No. We provide two witnesses for your ceremony, which is what makes a true elopement possible. If you would rather bring your own, that is lovely too.
Where will we have dinner, and will we be eating with other guests?
That is entirely your choice. You can join everyone in the Dining Room, which on most evenings feels much more like a houseparty than a hotel restaurant, or we can serve your three-course dinner privately in the Drawing Room. Your ceremony is private either way. Augill does carry on around you on an elopement, so if you want the whole castle closed to everyone but you, that is Exclusively Yours.
Can we eat here on the night we arrive?
Yes. Afternoon tea with a glass of Prosecco is waiting when you get here, and supper can be arranged for that first evening if you would like to make more of it. Mention it when you book and we will sort it out.
How much notice do we need to give?
The legal paperwork takes a minimum of 30 days: you both give notice at your local register office, and we help you arrange the registrar here. In practice a couple of months gives you the best choice of dates.
Can we add a handful of guests?
You can add a few with extra rooms from £220 per double. Beyond about a dozen people you will get better value from the Perfect Day Mini package, which is the same idea with your closest people around the table.
